The
Palestinian legislative elections of January 25 were
keenly watched by the White Rouse as a milestone in the
Mideast democratic progress. But a victory for the
Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has put
paid to its plans. Ramas got an overwhelming majority of
74 seats in the 1 32-seat parliament-in the elections,
defeating previously long-dominant Palestine National
Liberation Movement (Fatah) led by Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas.
Ramas is listed as a terror organization by Israel, the
United States and the European Union (ED). The surprise
victory of Ramas has triggered world concern over the
prosPects for the stalemated Mideast peace process.

GCC states study economy of exports
GCC
states are a live example of the role of exports ,in
economic growth, especially due to the importance of
exports in providing a stimulus in internal economic
activities, a study issued by the Dubai Chamber of
Commerce and Industry has said.
The
study said that oil dominates GCC exports, adding that
non-oil exports have not been effective during the past
few decades. It noted that non-oil exports account for a
very low percentage of export figures from the GCC
states, which does not reflect weak commercial relations
but a weak production base.
Other problems in this area include low inter-Arab exports
and low exports to foreign states, high customs tariffs
and shortage of information on market requirements
The report noted that these obstacles negatively affect
the export capacity of the GCC states and lead to
inefficiencies in the financial systems of the exporting
companies, limited government subsidies and the absence of
suitable export partners

Now is the time when our Movement ought to
intensify its work towards the creation of a new people-centred
world and an egalitarian world society. Now is the time when a
heightened awareness of the threats to multilateralism through
the imposition of unilateralism ought to galvanise us into
concrete courses of action.
